So, here’s a little fun fact about me: recently, I’ve been joining a few new Facebook groups, and when it comes to introductions, it seems the default is always to state our job titles. It’s quite funny, really—how we often define ourselves by what we do for a living. I mean, it’s like we’re all stuck on autopilot, assuming that our job is the crux of who we are. But let’s be honest, it’s far from the whole picture.

I’m gearing up to launch my new signature programme, which kicks off in October, and one of the core elements is all about Visibility. It’s about how we see ourselves and, more importantly, how we want others to see us in business. Having clarity about our personal brand and the way we present ourselves can transform your content strategy and marketing efforts. After all, if you’re not clear on your brand, you might as well be like Chandler from Friends, whose job was a mystery to everyone! And let’s face it, a business being a well kept secret isn’t exactly going to magnetise those potential clients is it?

So, how do you make sure you’re not just another well-kept secret? Let’s delve into the magic of unearthing your uniqueness and using colour and clothes to truly express who you are.

Your Unique Pie: More Than Just Job Titles

Let’s talk about your “pie” for a moment. No, not the scrummy apple kind you might indulge in with lashings of custard—though, who doesn’t love a good pie? I’m referring to your metaphorical pie chart that represents all the skills, experiences, and knowledge that make up who you are.

Imagine your pie chart filled with every little piece that contributes to your unique self: your career experiences, your hobbies, your passions, and even those quirky skills you might not realise are special. This chart is what differentiates you from others, even if they’re in the same line of work. Your pie is uniquely yours, and it’s this uniqueness that is going to set you apart in a crowded marketplace.

Think about how your previous roles and experiences shape the way you show up in your business today. Maybe like me, you worked in a bar or a shop when you were a student and that helped you develop your social and customer service skills. Also for me studying to be a make-up artist means that I can help my clients with the make up side of things.  You can see how each role adds a unique flavour to your pie. When you’re showcasing your personal brand, it’s essential to highlight your ingredients. These are things that makes your pie uniquely *you* and more compelling.

The Ingredients of Your Pie: Unearth Them

As you reflect on your life, you’ll find that your “pie” is seasoned with various ingredients from your past. I’ve had a rich tapestry of experiences—from working in a shop to being a make-up artist and a lecturer. Being a college lecturer helps me with planning learning resources and standing in front of groups of people  to speak. All these roles contribute to who I am today. They help me connect with clients in a way that’s genuine and relatable.

When you dig deep into your own life story, you’ll uncover unique experiences and skills. Maybe you’re a passionate knitter, a lover of a specific car, or someone who finds joy in a particular hobby. These aren’t just trivial details; they’re key components of your personal brand. They’re the things that can help make you stand out and be the  flamingo amongst the flock of pigeons.

Revealing the Real You

Let’s be honest: presenting ourselves authentically can be daunting. The world is filled with expectations and pressures, and sometimes it’s easier to just blend in rather than stand out. But here’s the truth: revealing your true self is what allows your personal brand to shine.

Think about your past influences—family, friends, and experiences have all played a role in shaping who you are. For me, it was my childhood love for reading, drawing, and creativity that laid the foundation for my current work. These interests didn’t just disappear; they’ve evolved with me, becoming integral parts of my personal brand.

It’s easy to take these skills and interests for granted, but they are what make you special. When others admire your unique abilities or talents, it’s a testament to the fact that these elements of your pie are valued. So, don’t shrug off your talents or downplay your achievements. Embrace them and let them shine through in your personal brand.

How Colour and Clothes Play a Role

Now, let’s dive into the fun part—how colour and clothes can really amplify your unique personal brand. Just like the flamboyant flamingo in the crowd of pigeons, the right wardrobe choices will help you express your individuality and align with your brand identity.

Colour Your World

Colour is a powerful tool in personal branding. It’s not just about what looks good; it’s about what feels right and represents who you are. Whether you’re drawn to vibrant pinks, calming blues, or bold reds, the colours you choose can send a strong message about your personality and values.

Think about what colours resonate with you and how they make you feel. Do they reflect your energy, your passions, and your identity? Incorporating your favourite colours into your wardrobe can help you feel more authentic and confident, especially if they suit you.

Dress the Part

Clothing is another way to express your personal brand. The way you dress communicates volumes about your personality and professional identity. If you’re a creative soul, donning outfits with artistic flair will reflect your vibrant, imaginative side. If you’re a powerhouse corporate leader, tailored and sleek attire might be the thing to convey your authority and confidence in the boardroom.

As you know I’m a big believer that wearing the right clothes can enhance your mood and boost your self-esteem. Dopamine dressing is a thing.  When you feel good in what you’re wearing, it’s easier to project confidence and authenticity. So, taking the time to ensure your wardrobe aligns with your personal brand and makes you feel fabulous is a definite investment that can help boost your bottom line.
Bringing It All Together
In a world where people buy from people, it’s essential to showcase the real you. Your unique pie, with all its diverse ingredients, is what sets you apart. By embracing your individuality and incorporating it into your personal brand, showing who you are through colour and clothes, you will magnetically attract your ideal clients.

So, when it comes to introducing yourself or presenting your personal brand, remember to let your uniqueness shine through. Embrace your experiences, celebrate your passions, and express your true self with confidence. You’re a deep-filled pie, your personal brand deserves to be seen and celebrated like a flamingo amongst the flock of pigeons.
