How I Combine Science, Art, and Psychology to Transform Your Style

You know how, when you put on a particular dress or a certain top and it feels like you? It’s as if the stars have have aligned! Your eyes brighten, your skin looks great and your confidence is boosted. Or maybe you’ve experienced the opposite, an outfit that makes you feel “off” all day, even though it looked fine on the hanger. That’s not just luck or a bad day – it can be the powerful influence of colour.

Colour isn’t just about looking good. It’s a tool for self-expression, a confidence booster, and a way to communicate without saying a word.

Over the years, I’ve combined my deep knowledge of colour theory, picked up from working as a designer, being involved with the colour forecasting industry and developed it further by training in three different colour analysis systems.

Combine that depth of knowledge with an understanding of the psychology of colour and how to put combinations together so they’re not only aesthetically pleasing but are communicating too, helps my clients step into their power and dress for joy.

This is what sets me apart in the colour analysis world.

I have had many clients over the years who have been misread by other consultants. Usually this has been because they don’t properly understand the technical aspects of colour theory or the subtle differences between a cooler version of a warm colour and vice versa. They can only work with the manual they were provided with on the few days training they had- if you don’t easily fall into the categories provided they are stumped.

Eg. They come across a client with grey hair, they see grey and automatically assume “cool”. Which is not always the case.

I’ve even had one client who was told her eyes were the “wrong” colour because she didn’t fit into the category she thought she was supposed to.😳

Eventually, once they find me they get a definitive answer and don’t look back. They can see the difference it makes and have total confidence in what I’ve told them and the reasons why it’s so.

I loved hearing from a client last week who was at a SWISH, a colour consultant there was trying to persuade her to try something that wasn’t in her palette, she confidently declined the wrong, unsolicited “advice”.

Colour Theory : The Science of Harmony

Here’s how I do it – and how you can use colour to transform your wardrobe (and your life).

1. Colour Theory: The Science of Harmony

Let’s start with the science. Colour theory is all about understanding how colours work together – or clash. It’s the foundation of everything I do, from identifying your best tints, tones or shades to creating outfits that feel balanced, well put together and perfect for you.

Do you know your skin undertone? It’s like your skin’s secret code, influencing which colours will make you glow and which will leave you looking tired. Warm, cool, or neutral undertones play a massive role in the colours that suit you. Get it right, and your clothes will enhance your natural beauty by making your eye colour pop and illuminate your complexion. Get it wrong, and even the most fabulous outfit will fall short, you look tired because shadows are more obvious and you need to ramp up your make up to compensate.

Sometimes it’s really obvious whether someone suits warm or cool colours, as they are clearly at one end if the spectrum to the other. It’s not as easy when they’re more in the middle. And this is where I see so many colour analysis consultants fall down, They just don’t have the underlying skills.

When I do a reading, I’m looking at skin tone, plus I take into account hair colour, eye colour, and even personality to a degree.

It’s about finding the perfect palette that feels right for you – one that makes you feel like yourself on your best day and works with how you want to wear colour- style personality rules in this department.

2. The Psychology of Colour: Dressing for Confidence

Colour isn’t just visual; it’s emotional. Every tints, tones and shade has its own energy and meaning, and it affects how you feel and how others perceive you. That’s where the psychology of colour comes in.

Think about how certain colours make you feel. In yhe western world we think of blue as a calm and trustworthy colour, red is bold and powerful, yellow is cheerful and optimistic etc. When you choose what to wear, you’re sending subtle signals – to yourself and everyone around you.

For my clients, this is often a game-changer. An individual might turn to deep jewel tones or highly contrasting colours like black and white to convey authority. Someone nervous about public speaking might want to wear a warm, approachable shade like coral or teal. The right colour can lift your mood, boost your confidence, and help you show up as the best version of yourself.

Combining Science & Soul Colours

3. Combining Science and Soul: Your Unique Power Palette

Finding your colours isn’t just about rules or formulas. It’s about you. That’s why I don’t just rely on colour theory or psychology alone. I blend them to create something deeply personal.

It starts with a consultation, where I get to know not just your colouring but your style personality, your goals, and the image you want to project. Then we dive into the science – your undertones, contrast levels, and natural colouring. From there, we layer in the psychology of colour, matching shades to your energy and the way you want to feel.

The result? A colour power palette that’s as unique as you are. It’s not just about wearing the “right” colours; it’s about finding the hues that make you come alive and feel very *you*.

4. The Power of a Signature Palette

One of the biggest benefits of understanding your colours is the confidence it gives you. Imagine knowing that everything in your wardrobe works for you. No more second-guessing in the changing room. No more outfits that feel “meh.” Just clothes that make you look and feel incredible.

Your palette becomes your guide. It helps you make smarter shopping choices, save time getting dressed, and avoid those “I have nothing to wear” moments. It’s not about limiting your options – it’s about opening up a world of possibilities that truly suit you.

The Emotional Impact of Colour

5. More Than Clothes: The Emotional Impact of Colour

What I love most about working with colour is the transformation it sparks – not just on the outside but within. So many women come to me feeling disconnected from their style, unsure of who they are or how to express it. Colour helps them reconnect.

When you wear colours that reflect your personality and energy, you feel more authentic. You start to own your space, step into your power, and show up with confidence. It’s not just about looking good (although that’s a bonus); it’s about feeling good – about feeling truly comfortable in your own skin.

6. My Process: From Chaos to Clarity

If your wardrobe feels like a jumbled mess of colours that don’t quite go together, you’re not alone. So many of my clients tell me they’ve bought clothes based on trends or convenience, only to find they don’t work for them. That’s where my process comes in.

We start by assessing what’s already in your wardrobe. I help you identify the colours that align with your palette and show you how to mix and match them. Then, we fill in the gaps – whether that’s through shopping your wardrobe, adding a few key pieces, or simply getting creative with what you have.

By the end, you’ll have a wardrobe that feels cohesive, intentional, and totally you. No more wasted money on clothes you don’t wear. No more wardrobe stress. Just confidence and clarity.

7. Why This Matters

For me, colour is about more than clothes. It’s about empowerment. It’s about helping you see yourself in a new light – literally and figuratively. When you wear the right colours, you feel more confident, more visible, more alive. And that’s what I want for every individual I work with.

Because you deserve to feel fabulous. You deserve to look in the mirror and love what you see. And you deserve to express yourself in a way that feels true to who you are. Colour is one of the most powerful tools to help you do that.
